Our School-Age Program has been developed to meet the needs of children K-5th grade. Children at this age are learning to master physical and cognitive skills and are putting energy into developing social relationships with peers and adults. Our program will help your child continue to mature into an independent well-rounded adolescent. Wide selections of developmentally appropriate materials are available for the school age children. Our classrooms are center-based, and our staff provides alternating activities by changing materials on a daily basis. This includes adequate time for children to interact with one another and with the materials prepared. Monthly themes entail fun and educational experiences for your children. The classrooms are divided up into three different age groups: Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade, and 3rd thru 5th grade, although classrooms may vary depending on enrollment. Our program includes recreational activities, arts and crafts, science, character building activities, cooking and a homework lab. These activities encourage a positive self-concept and feelings of worth. Each child's independence, while enrolled in our program, is developed by improving self-help skills and strengthening decision-making abilities with the assistance of our trained teachers.

Program Highlights

* Flexible Schedules – A two-day minimum with a set schedule is required. You may choose any days.

* Homework Lab - During this time, your child will have a choice of: a journal topic for writing, a bookshelf full of books to read, or a chance to work on their homework from their elementary school. Our teachers will be available to help anyone whom is in need of extra help.

* Character Counts Program -This program is designed to focus on key elements such as: trustworthiness, respect, perseverance, citizenship and many other traits. Once instilled, these key traits and values will help guide your child to make good decisions and achieve success. At the end of each month, we will have an assembly to honor each child and hand out awards for those children who excelled in each trait. We invite families to help us celebrate each character trait and the monthly birthdays.

* Center Based Learning - Our curriculum is designed to give children the opportunity to explore a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities within a warm supportive environment. We provide a balance of activities in the following areas: indoor/outdoor, quiet/active, small/large group, large muscle/small muscle, and child initiated/staff initiated. Our program includes recreational activities, arts & crafts, science, manipulatives, and cooking. These activities encourage a positive self-concept and feelings of worth.

* Transportation - Our program works hand in hand with the Atascadero Unified School District on all 5 local campuses. Along with this partnership, the district has included a bus stop less than a half block away from our facility. Any children, 3rd grade and above, ride the AUSD bus to our Paloma Creek Bus Stop. We meet the bus there and bring them back to our facility in our school vans. For children in Kindergarten – 2nd grade, we will meet them at their school site and bring them back to our facility. They will not be riding the bus. Our teachers drive our school vans. They all have been background-checked and have valid CA driver's licenses (for peace of mind- we require a DMV Driving Printout at the time of hiring).

* Summer Camp – This is a fun way to spend the summer. Weekly field trips, swimming at the High School pool, ACC's own water slide and water days, Wheels Day, Fun Clubs to choose from, sport camps and annual overnight campout are just a few activities we offer.
